Strategy for Ubabalo eAfrica

Strategy for South Africa

The Strategy

About 79.7% of South Africans are Christians. The church is the largest ‘non-governmental organization (NGO)’ in the country. Hence the church has good infrastructure to implement Ubabalo eAfrica.

Each church is to identify 3 coaches. They can be trained coaches or individuals who desire to be trained as coaches. The coach and church then recruits or adopts 3 soccer teams ranging from 11 to 19 years of age.

These coaches will be trained and given the curriculum which comprises a soccer coaching manual, and a leadership and life skills manual. The immediate strategy is to enlist 100 Hub-Churches from across South Africa.

Each Hub-Church is to mobilize 10 Partner Churches within its region. These 10 Partnering Churches now create a domino effect – each identify 3 coaches and recruit or adopting 3 teams.

The Hub-Church comes from a historically disadvantaged area. Further, the Hub-Church functions as the Ubabalo eAfrica office to her 10 Partnering Churches. The Hub-Church will host envisioing and training events for coaches, facilitate communication and disseminate resources.

Each church, whether Hub-Church or Partnering Church, must identify a champion. This champion must live an exemplary life which demonstrates his/her adherence to Biblical principles. An influential and respected senior pastor or Christian will mentor this champion.

We also need churches from the historically advantaged side of society. They can become a Hub-Associate Church which will then serve in tandem with the Hub-Church. The Hub Associate Church will support to provide resources for the activities of the Hub-Church.

Ubabalo eAfrica began in South Africa in August 2006 and has expanded to 24 African countries since January 2008.

The Ubabalo eAfrica network of churches will serve 'The Ultimate Goal' outreach during the 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.
